We Treat Concrete Coating Systems Like a Fine Science

Our Process

At Big Paw Concrete Coatings, we combine the industry’s best materials with a proven application process to deliver floors that perform for decades. We use high-performance epoxy, polyaspartic and polyurethane systems from Resinwerks, applied with precision and care by our trained professionals.

Our coatings offer more than a clean finish—they deliver durability, chemical resistance, moisture protection, aesthetic flexibility, and long-term performance. From residential garages to commercial facilities and industrial spaces, our process is built for results.

While every floor system is custom-tailored to the needs of your space, here’s a look at how a typical installation unfolds:

Surface Preparation

Proper prep is the single most important part of any coating job. We never cut corners—and that starts with creating the perfect surface for bonding.

1

Diamond Grinding

We begin by mechanically grinding the concrete to open the surface and remove old coatings, sealants, or stains. This ensures a clean, textured profile for long-term adhesion. We use industrial-grade Lavina grinders as well as powerful hand grinders, which provide superior efficiency and surface consistency.

2

Crack & Surface Repair

Next, we inspect every inch of the slab for cracks, holes, spalling, or damage. We repair these defects using compatible patching compounds or rebuild materials to ensure a smooth, sound surface.

3

HEPA Vacuuming

Once grinding and repairs are complete, we thoroughly clean the slab using HEPA-certified dust extractors. Removing airborne and embedded dust is critical to achieving a strong chemical bond between the coating and concrete.

4

Final Inspection

Before any coating begins, we perform a detailed inspection to confirm the surface is clean, dry, and properly prepared. If it doesn’t meet our standards, we don’t move forward.

Coating Application

Once the surface is fully prepped, we apply a multi-layer system tailored to your specific needs—balancing durability, performance, and aesthetics.

5

Primer Coat

We begin with a system-specific primer designed to penetrate and bond deeply with the concrete. These primers form a long-lasting root-like structure that anchors the coating system and improves moisture and impact resistance.

6

Custom Color COAT

This layer defines the look and feel of your floor. Whether you choose decorative flake, quartz, solid color, or a clear finish, we install it with attention to detail and visual consistency.

7

Mid Coat (Optional)

For high-impact or heavy-load environments, we may apply a mid-layer reinforced with aggregate. Using broadcast or trowel techniques, this layer helps disperse kinetic energy from heavy equipment or point loads, improving durability and safety.

8

Top Coat

We finish with a high-performance, chemical-resistant polyaspartic or polyurethane topcoat—depending on the environment. This final layer locks in your floor’s durability, shine, and resistance to stains, UV, and abrasions.

Project Completion

Once the topcoat is applied, we allow proper cure time based on environmental conditions and system specs—usually 24 to 72 hours. Before we leave, we perform a final walkthrough with you to ensure everything meets expectations. We also provide detailed maintenance guidance to help your new floor perform its best for years to come.
