What does a coating system cost?
Every floor is different — and cost reflects that. The same coating system can vary significantly in price from one slab to the next based on square footage, concrete condition, required repairs, surface profile, moisture levels, and the specific system selected. A straightforward garage floor in good condition is a very different scope than a commercial kitchen or a slab that needs significant prep work before a single drop of coating goes down. That’s why we offer free in-person estimates — because giving you an accurate number without seeing the floor in person wouldn’t be doing you any favors.

How long will a coating system last?
That depends on more variables than any contractor can honestly put a single number on — the quality of the concrete beneath, traffic load, chemical exposure, and how the floor is maintained all play a significant role. What we can control is installing the right system correctly from the start, which is the single biggest factor in long-term performance. Proper prep, the right product for the environment, and basic maintenance will always outlast a fast install with cheap materials. In ideal conditions — proper preparation, the right system for the environment, and consistent maintenance — a professionally installed floor coating can last decades.

How long before we can use the floor after installation?
It depends on the system. Most polyaspartic systems are walkable within hours and vehicle-ready within 24 hours. Epoxy-based systems typically require longer cure windows before full return to service. For outdoor pavement applications using MMA-based StreetBond systems, surfaces can return to service in as little as 15 to 30 minutes. We give every client a clear timeline before the job starts so there are no surprises.

What’s the best coating for a garage floor?
A pigmented epoxy or polyaspartic base coat with a flake broadcast and a clear polyaspartic topcoat provides superior adhesion, traction, clarity, and UV protection. A single topcoat of polyaspartic is more than sufficient for most garages and shops.

How do you choose the right system for my space?
We evaluate moisture, traffic, exposure, and substrate condition before recommending a system. Every surface gets a customized plan.

What surface preparation do you perform before coating?
Surface preparation is the most important part of any coating installation — and the step most often rushed by contractors looking to move fast. At Big Paw, every job starts with professional diamond grinding to mechanically profile the slab, open the concrete’s pores, and remove surface contaminants — no matter how new, old, “perfect,” or damaged the surface appears. From there we evaluate moisture levels and address cracks or damage before selecting and applying any system. No coating — regardless of how good the product is — performs long term over a poorly prepared surface.

Can you coat a concrete floor in one day?
On small, ideal floors with the right conditions — yes, it’s possible. But speed should never come at the cost of proper surface preparation or adequate cure time. Those aren’t optional steps — they’re what separates a floor that lasts from one that doesn’t. At Big Paw, we move at the pace the floor requires, not the pace that’s most convenient for us.

Can coatings be applied to green (new) concrete?
Yes, but only with the right materials. Most coatings require fully cured concrete, but we offer moisture-tolerant primers and urethane cement systems that can be safely installed on green concrete without risk of failure. We recommend at least 28 days after a slab has been poured before installing a coating system.

Does weather or temperature affect coating installation?
Yes. Temperature, humidity, dew point, and moisture content in the concrete all play a significant role in coating performance. Every product has minimum and maximum temperature ranges for installation, and conditions affect cure times, adhesion, and long-term durability. Applying a coating when the substrate temperature is too close to the dew point, when moisture vapor is pushing through the slab, or when weather conditions are shifting rapidly can compromise the entire system — regardless of how good the product is. At Big Paw, we evaluate site conditions carefully before every job and will adjust our process or reschedule work to ensure the system goes down right.

Can epoxy be used outside?
Standard epoxy is not recommended for outdoor or sunlit applications — it is not UV-stable and will amber and degrade with sun exposure. Epoxy is also not suitable as a mid or topcoat in any system where UV exposure is a factor. For outdoor pavement surfaces like driveways, walkways, and crosswalks, we use StreetBond pavement coating systems engineered specifically for outdoor concrete and asphalt. For sunlit interior spaces or entryways, we use polyaspartic or urethane topcoats.

Why avoid polyurea and standard acrylic coatings?

Are your coating systems safe for pets, kids, or food environments?
Yes. Many of our products have low or zero VOCs, and we offer antimicrobial options for clinics, kitchens, and schools. Our Resinwerks and StreetBond systems are formulated to meet strict safety standards for both commercial and residential use.

Do you sell any of these products to the public?
No. We do not sell the professional-grade materials we use to the public. These products require proper training, surface preparation, and environmental control to perform as intended. At Big Paw, we are trained installers of Resinwerks and StreetBond systems and follow all manufacturer-approved application procedures. Installation is a complex process — not something that should be attempted as a DIY project. In coatings, cheaper is almost always more expensive in the long run.

Can you provide technical data sheets or safety data sheets for your products?
Yes. Technical data sheets and safety data sheets are available for all Resinwerks and StreetBond products we install. These documents cover product specifications, application parameters, cure times, chemical resistance, VOC content, and safety information. If you are a facility manager, architect, contractor, or specifier working on a project that requires product documentation, we can provide the relevant data sheets for any system we’re proposing.
